Melanie Cheary
Before founding the consultancy, Melanie Cheary worked as a journalist and editor for Reuters, the world's largest international multimedia news agency. She has written extensively about financial markets, commodities and economics, as well as political, environmental and social issues.
During her reporting career, Melanie met with world leaders -- including Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton -- interviewed film stars and the heads of blue-chip companies. She has since consulted for the United Nations on its Human Trafficking Initiative, the Reuters Foundation, MARS, The Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development, Arab Media Group and Penrose Financial.
Melanie holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Classics from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. She also has an MBA from Dundee University, Scotland. She speaks German and Dutch.
Richard Cheary
Professional negotiator Richard Cheary consulted extensively for the South African government on economics and health issues before becoming Cheary Media’s Director for Africa and Asia. Combining first-class analytical and organizational skills, Richard has worked throughout Southern Africa and executed high-profile projects from conception to conclusion.
Following a political career during the post-Apartheid “Mandela” years, Richard managed part of the vital Reconstruction Development and Planning programme. He has worked closely with government, business and tribal leaders.
Andrew Njoroge
Acclaimed photographer and video journalist, Andrew Njoroge has spent almost two decades covering Africa. Combining visual creativity with a keen awareness of how to get the message across in a clear and compelling manner, Andrew has worked for the major European and American news organisations – including Reuters and Associated Press. He has also worked for leading NGOs.
Consulting for Cheary Media independently on broadcast and design, Andrew is based in Nairobi, Kenya and Mumbai, India. He is also the founder and executive director of AfricanColours.net, a portal for artists from across the African continent.
